In 2013 and 2014 the Thornton family of Raymond, Helen and their three sons were exploring various ideas to bring added value to their family farm including potato chips and farm tours before realising they possessed two of the best ingredients to make a world class vodka;

  • Premium quality Irish potatoes of several indigenous varieties (Kerr’s Pinks and Roosters) grown in the rich soil of the North East of Ireland.
  • An endless supply of natural Irish spring water enriched and filtered by the soil and rock through which it passed.

With support and expertise from An Bord Bia (The Irish Food and Drink Export Organisation) a series of consumer research panels were conducted in California in the Spring of 2015. The Thornton’s were seeking to confirm what they believed anecdotally to be true – that consumers were tiring of ‘mainstream’ vodka and a cohort was emerging that were seeking something different. The consumer focus groups research clearly supported that view….
